As I turn 50 I often find myself in a state of reflection. I look back on my life and think about how eventful, yet rewarding it’s been. I feel that the term Black Bravado describes who I am and what I stand for, as a Mother, Wife, and Black Queen. I truly believe that I can be all things. I’m in the final stages of my career, wrapping up 20 years as a correction officer. I’m in the 20th year of my marriage and I’ve raised two smart black men. One of which, is the co-founder and creator of Black Bravado.

I feel that now is the time for me to reinvent myself. For the next chapter of my life I’m taking an interest in real estate. As of right now, all I know is that I’ll continue to strive for better. That’s how I raised my boys. To be successful at whatever it is they do, by working hard to be the best at it. Those values were instilled in me as a child, so it was important to me as a mom, to have passed those values onto my children. My hope is that they’ll continue to look at me as a role model.

Turning 50 is a milestone in my life. One that I’d like to think I’ve reached gracefully and humbly. I feel extremely grateful and blessed to have made it to this age. And I know that there’s nothing but bigger and better things to come for this Black Queen.
