Sound Cloud can be a really really good place, if you fancy yourself somewhat of a musical outcast. One can easily get sucked into a vortex of covers and random mixes then at the perfect moment you stumble upon audio gold. That in a nutshell was my Kitty Cash experience. Cash, now one of the most sought after DJ’s intertwines her love for various musical genres, fashion and art. Most notably on her Love The Free mixtape series, legendary for creating a platform for emerging artist.
A Brooklyn born Trini, Cash’s love for music was always present. Growing up she and her dads favorite pastime was listening to Reggae and Soca while trips to her grandmothers was all about Disco and Funk. Cachee Livingston, Cash’s government name went to the Fashion Institute of Technology where she earned her B.A. in Advertising & Marketing Communications. While in school, she turned her love for music into a side hustle booking DJ gigs for extra money. Cash reveled in the fashion and art scene, freelancing for large brands like L’oreal and Sony before landing a full time job at Ralph Lauren post graduation. Becoming a professional DJ/Producer/Creative wasn’t the goal for Kitty Cash. She got her start completely by chance when her friend then up and coming artist Kilo Kish (dopeness abound) was in need of a DJ and asked Cash to fill in. She was hooked and the rest is herstory !
There was an interview somewhere where Cash was talking about hustling early on in her career. She said something like – when most girls were saving up for Céline bags I was saving for DJ equipment. Funny thing is, the outcast are really the cool kids. Their the ones who are constantly creating while everyone else is just trying to catch up.
